Nahla

I adopted Nahla when she was just a 12 week old, undersized, and obviously sick puppy. A lot of people told me I was crazy for adopting a sick puppy, but I knew in my heart that I was the one to help her get healthy and help her enjoy an amazing life with me and my family. My brother-in-law had recently passed away, and my family needed a light – they needed Nahla.

As soon as we brought Nahla home, we could see the effects of her previous living conditions and her illness. She was terrified of everything, including food, which it seemed that she was not fed regularly in her previous home. My children and I worked incredibly hard to gain her trust and help her feel safe in her new home. Additionally, we took her to a specialist to diagnose her suspected heart condition and learned that she has a PDA (like so many BHF grant recipients).

In the short time we’ve had Nahla, already she is like one of my children. I can’t wait for my lil Nahla to be able to greet me at the door or the garage/driveway when I come home. It is actually relaxing coming home to little dogs barking, little girls yelling mommy is home and teenagers asking what’s for dinner. This might sound odd, but we had rain for the first time in a long time (we’re in California), and I couldn’t wait to get home to see how Nahla would react to her first rainfall. I look forward to all the “firsts” I want Nahla to be able to experience, just like my children.

She has already brought so much love and comfort to my family in a time of sadness, we owe it to her to give her the best life imaginable.
